Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council:
Protecting Communities from Wildfire Risk
The Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council (MRFSC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to wildfire prevention and preparedness in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. Formed in 1999 after the devastating Mill Fire, MRFSC empowers residents to take proactive steps in safeguarding their homes, neighborhoods, and natural surroundings from the growing threat of wildfires.
What They Do
MRFSC offers a wide range of services and programs designed to reduce wildfire risk and promote community resilience:
- Document Shredding – Free document shredding quarterly at Rime of the World High School. Check MRFSC website for current dates.

- Chipping Program – Helps residents dispose of brush and tree trimmings, removing over 350,000 cubic feet of slash in just two seasons.
- Hazardous Tree Removal – Assists with identifying and removing dead or dangerous trees that pose fire hazards.
- Fire Hazard Abatement Assistance – Supports homeowners in creating defensible space around their properties.
- Adopt-A-Hydrant Program – Encourages community members to maintain access to fire hydrants.

Who Can Get Help
Homeowners, renters, and local businesses in the San Bernardino Mountains can benefit from MRFSC’s programs. Whether you’re a full-time resident or a seasonal visitor, the council offers tools and support to help you prepare for wildfire threats.
Homeowners who have received abatement notices in the San Bernardino communiities may be able receive assistance. MRFSC’s program addresses Notices to Abate and Violations issued by San Bernardino County, CAL FIRE, local fire departments, and insurance companies. It is important to note that this program is not intended for general maintenance, landscaping, or routine yard work services.
Why It Matters
