Did you know…
A Natural Wonder Steeped in History
Towering over San Bernardino, the Arrowhead isn’t just a geological marvel, it’s a symbol woven into the fabric of the region’s history. Native Americans saw it as a spiritual guide, while pioneers considered it a testament to their perseverance.
This impressive landmark stretches over 1300 feet and appears almost crafted by human hands. But the truth is far more fascinating. The Arrowhead’s distinct form is caused by a unique mix of minerals in its surface rock. This, combined with the low-lying white sage that thrives there, creates a striking contrast against the surrounding vegetation, making it resemble a giant arrow.
Legends surround the Arrowhead, with the most enduring one originating from the Native Americans from the area called the Serrano Indians. They believed it marked the spot chosen by a Great Spirit, just like a guiding light. Native inhabitants also considered the area sacred, associating the Arrowhead with nearby healing hot springs. And some have said that the arrow is a sign to be seen from far away as it pointing to the water and the hot springs just below.
Despite some damage from wildfires, the Arrowhead remains a powerful symbol. It’s a reminder of the region’s rich past and enduring spirit. If you’re curious to see it for yourself, you’ll find the Arrowhead just north of Wildwood Park in San Bernardino.
